Privacy Policy

Overview

Lakes Linked is a public-health analytics project operated by Sergey Soshnikov, MD PhD. This site publishes open county-level health burden data derived from publicly available sources. We do not sell data, display advertising, or build user profiles.

Information we collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the site and respond to inquiries:

• Contact form submissions — name, email address, organization (optional), and your message. Submitted via Formspree and delivered to our inbox. We do not store submissions on our own servers.
• Server logs — standard access logs (IP address, browser type, page URL, timestamp) maintained by our hosting provider (AWS). These are used for security and performance monitoring and are not linked to individuals.
• Cookie consent preference — a single key (ll_consent_v1) stored in your browser's local storage to remember your cookie banner choice. This is not a tracking cookie and does not leave your device.

Analytics

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party behavioral tracking. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy and use a privacy-respecting tool with IP anonymization.

Third-party services

• Formspree — processes contact form submissions. Their privacy policy is at formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy.
• Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's CDN. Google may log font requests. See Google's privacy policy.
• Cloudflare CDN — chart and map libraries (Chart.js, Leaflet) are served from Cloudflare's CDN. Cloudflare may collect request metadata per their privacy policy.

Social sharing

Share buttons on this site are plain links to LinkedIn and Facebook sharing pages. Clicking them opens the platform's own sharing dialog. We do not embed social tracking scripts or iframes. The platforms' own privacy policies apply once you leave this site.

Data retention

Contact form emails are retained in our inbox for as long as needed to respond to inquiries. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days. We do not store any personal data beyond these channels.

Your rights

You may request deletion of any personal data you submitted via the contact form by emailing contact@lakeslinked.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Health data disclaimer

All county health estimates on this site are derived from publicly available population-level datasets (Global Burden of Disease, CDC, U.S. Census). No individual health records are collected, stored, or displayed. Data is presented for planning and research purposes only — not as medical advice or a formal GBD study.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be noted with an updated effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
